Programming Ideas:

Plan a movie marathon to tie into upcoming holidays or new movie releases. Southern Arkansas University played SAW II on the channel October 24th, played SAW III on the channel October 25th, and 15 students carpooled to the local theater on October 26th to see SAW IV.

Eastern Illinois University held a program focused on diversity. They asked 20 girls to answer questions related to diversity and asked the residents to step forward toward the line if they could relate to the question. The Program goal was to show the residents they had more in common than they may have thought. Residence Life Cinema suggests watching Diversity Retreat for additional program ideas surrounding diversity.

Tie movie programs into holidays or observances. For example, University of Florida carved pumpkins with the residents while watching a scary movie and had a Ballpark hotdog night and watched a sports movie.

DePaul University had a program in the laundry room. Quarters were provided and the residents had food and drinks and socialized while they waited for their laundry to finish. Residence Life Cinema suggests playing Laundry 101 in conjunction with your program.

University of Florida watched Crash on the channel with residents and used a Movie Discussion Guide for question ideas. The discussion after lasted about an hour and they discussed many issues concerning racism including personal experiences of the residents.
